Spasskaya Tower International Military Music Festival in Moscow gathers the best military bands from all over the world. Musicians from different countries perform martial music, classical pieces and hits created during the 20th century attracting thousands of spectators.
Every year in the beginning of September Moscow hosts Spasskaya Tower International Military Music Festival that gathers the best military bands from all over the world. The festival is named after the famous Spasskaya Tower of the Moscow Kremlin that overlords the venue. The festival is participated by Russian and foreign military bands, folk music groups as well as members fo the guard of honor of state leaders.
Traditionally, the festival participants play martial music popular in different countries of the world. Apart from the military music, they also perform classical pieces and hit music by the best 20th century performers, like The Beatles, Pink Floyd or Mireille Mathieu.
Apart from being an entertainment, Spasskaya Tower International Military Music Festival is also a great forum for international cooperation and sharing creative ideas. The festival attracts the best bands from all over the world. Thus, for example, in 2016 the festival was attended by participants from Belarus, Israel, Kazakhstan, Greece, a combined Celtic orchestra from different countries of European Union, as well as participants from Singapore, Italy, Mongolia, Slovenia, and Japan.
The first festival of this kind was held in 2006. Then it was held on the Poklonnaya Hill under the name of “Military Tattoo by Guard of Honor of State Leaders”. Poklonnaya Hill is the park in Moscow commemorating the victory in the World War II. Then, the spectarors were most impressed by the silent drill team of the Kazakh Defense Ministry that demonstrated unique weapons training skills that is completely inimitable by anyone in the world. The show proved to be so bright and impressive that they decided to repeat it every year. Ever since the Red Square is the festival venue. The current name of Spasskaya Tower appeared in 2009.
Normally, the festival lasts for nine days. The show starts at 8:00 p.m. but during the days visitors are welcome to visit workshop sessions, fairs, events for children, flashmobs, and performances. Every day of the festival is a spectacular event and every evening there is a light show with visual effects. The price of admission tickets varies from RUR 500 to RUR 8,000 depending on the day of the festival and the sector.
